New Website Offers ‘Responsible Drinking’ Retail Tips09 October 2008 - InBev UK has launched a new website that will provide practical guidance for retailers from industry experts on a range of issues related to responsible drinking. The You Are The Retailer initiative will help people develop the skills to communicate a responsible drinking message to drinkers in the on and off-trade. The site - www.responsible-retailer.co.uk - outlines challenging real-life situations that retailers have to face in their day-to-day working lives. It provides site visitors with a typical scenario linked with the issue of responsible drinking, gives them the choice of three options to deal with it - and highlights the correct approach to take based on guidelines outlined in current legislation. Industry experts such as BII (British Institute of Innkeeping) and BBPA (British Beer & Pub Association) also offer their advice on the situation. The first issue tackled on the site involves a typical situation for many off-trade retailers: their customers want to buy alcohol - even though their speech is slurred so they have obviously been drinking. The site provides advice on the best way for a retailer to handle the situation in a polite way while adhering to responsible drinking guidelines. The nature of the issue will be updated on a monthly basis to provide information on such topics as under-age drinking and “knowing your limits”. The new site supports InBev UK’s involvement with this year’s Responsible Drinks Retailing Awards through sponsorship of the “Innovation of the Year” category by Stella Artois. |
