AB InBev UK celebrates World Environment Day as employees Run for Water and raise €10,000 for WaterAid

07 June 2010 - AB InBev UK employees joined their colleagues across Western Europe to Run for Water in celebration of World Environment Day. With the company pledging to donate €1 for each kilometre completed, 246 AB InBev UK employees walked, ran and even swam almost 1,200 kilometres in events around the UK in the run up to and during World Environment Day, celebrated globally Saturday, June 5th.

With a grand total of 3540 kilometres completed across Western Europe – the equivalent of running from London to our global headquarter in Leuven 10 times over – AB InBev Western Europe has announced it will almost triple the company’s pledged donation to €10,000.  The donation will be made to WaterAid, an international non-governmental organisation dedicated to transforming lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities.

Stuart MacFarlane, President, AB InBev UK said, “We’re very pleased to be marking World Environment Day with our Run for Water activities around the UK.  AB InBev’s global dream is to be the Best Beer Company in a Better World, and this is just one way that we’re bringing that dream to life.

“As a company, we’re encouraging environmental projects of all kinds with a special emphasis on those that focus on the issue of water conservation and watershed protection.”

MacFarlane continued, “Water is a finite and precious resource and the principal ingredient in our products. Efficient use of water is essential to the continued, sustainable growth of our business around the world.”

One of our global environmental goals is to reduce water use per produced hectoliter to 3.5 HL by the end of 2012 – an achievement that would establish us as the most water-efficient global brewer in the world.”

Charlene Asamoah, Senior Account Manager at WaterAid, said:  “We are delighted that AB InBev employees are supporting WaterAid on World Environment Day and would like to thank everyone who has taken part in walks and runs. The money raised will help us make a real difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest communities – enabling them to gain access to the basic needs of safe water and sanitation.”
